Dog Food Nutrition Information by VetInfo.com

Dog food nutrition information – It’s always important to review the basics when it comes to keeping our dogs healthy.

Although it is quite obvious that this is important, it is quite obvious that many dog owners don’t do this.  Why do I say this?  Just look at the number of people who buy the cheapest dog food or buy their dog food at grocery store or retail chains.

Look at the number of dogs that are obese.  It’s a real shame to see this.  How many dogs do you see getting proper exercise.

I walk with my dog every morning – 2 to 3 miles each day.  I know you get sick of hearing me say that.  But I see only 2 other dogs getting good exercise each day in my neighborhood.  And there are tons of dogs living close by.

I read a recent article entitled “Total Dog Health: The Comprehensive Guide.”  The article is posted by www.vetinfo.com.

It’s a very good article.  It lists some of the most important factors in keeping your dog healthy.  The first topic listed is dog food nutrition information.  The author points out the importance of feeding the best quality dog food.

Dog supplementation is also emphasized.  I have stressed the importance of nutritional dog supplements many times in my posts.  The article in VetInfo says it much better than I can.

Here is a quote:

Good dog nutrition is one of the best ways to avoid a number of common conditions such as dog constipation, diarrhea, allergies, chronic skin conditions, frequent stomach upsets, bad breath, ear infections, hyperactivity, anxiousness, aggressiveness, and anxiety, to name a few. To avoid common dog conditions the best thing you can do for your dog is to avoid low-quality, low-nutrition, commercial dog food and buy high-quality products with a 40/50/10 ratio. This means, 40% meat, 50% veggies, and 10% carbohydrate. It is also important to avoid dog foods that use by-products as well as preservatives such as BHT, BHA, and Ethoxyquin. Choose premium brand and holistic foods as they do not contain fillers, by-products or harmful chemical preservatives. They contain 100% natural and nutritious human-grade ingredients. Add bulking agents to the diet, such as bran, pumpkin, or methylcellulose, can help prevent constipation as well. In addition to feeding your dog a balanced, high-quality diet, you should:

  • always provide fresh water
  • keep them away from trash and bones
  • avoid feeding them table scraps

Dog Supplementation

Dog supplements can be a great benefit to your pet in the long-run. No matter how healthy a type of dog food may be, not all dog food contains all of the vitamins and minerals your dog needs. Antioxidants, in particular, are important for optimal dog health for several reasons. Antioxidants have healing properties, they assist the body’s natural defense mechanism and in turn boost the immune system, and they decrease the effects of free radicals.

The entire article can be read here.  If you have an interest in your dog’s health, I strongly suggest that you read the complete article.  It also discusses preventative measures, proper exercise, and good dental care.

Do you keep track of the most recent dog food nutrition information?  What ideas to you have that keeps your dog healthy.  Thanks for your input.
